The medical college Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan was being created in 2009. It is sometimes being called by the name Shaikh Zayed medical college. It is a public institute for both medicine and dentistry. The former Minister of Punjab, Shahbaz Sharif took the initiative to build a new medical college in Pakistan. So, on his orders, a medical college by the name Shaikh Zayed Medical College was being created in the Lahore city. This step was taken to further develop Lahore. With this college is attached the hospital named Shaikh Zayed Hospital.

So, the classes started in 2009 and the first batch of the medicine class got graduated in 2014. Within a short period of time, Shaikh Zayed Medical college gained popularity. It has now earned the honor of being at number 4 in the rank of Punjab’s best public medical colleges. The head of the institute is Mr. Mateen Izhar.

History of Shaikh Zayed Medical College

The college is not so old as it has been created in 2009. Initially, it was being created as Shaikh Zayed Federal Postgraduate Medical and Shaikh Zayed Hospital in the year 1986. After that, it further modified to Shikha Fatima Institute of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences, then it got reformed into National institute of Kidney Diseases and then lastly into a medical college named as Shaikh Zayed Al-Nahyan Medical and Dentistry College in 2009.

After a number of amendments, it finally became a medical college. A journey of hardships made it come under the list of the top 5 best public institutes in Punjab. As time moved on, the college raised its standards of education, put every possible step to provide quality education to students, which is effective till now.

Overview of Shaikh Zayed Medical College

It is one of the best public institutes in Punjab. It has an affiliation with the University of Health Sciences (UHS) in 2016. Before that, it had afflitation with the University of Punjab. It has gain recognition from Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC).

Shaikh Zayed Medical College have the motto that saving a single human life save the whole humanity. Providing quality education to the students is the aim of this college. Now heading towards the departments, there is the department of undergraduate medical education (DUME). In this department, the institution has launched modern equipment and technologies. It has three cells working under the specialized faculty. There is an Electives Cell. Also, known as EC. This cell is responsible for facilitating the students to make them comfortable in the process of elections.

The second is the Career Counselling Cell. This cell is responsible for the counseling of students. In this cell, there are well-known experts. The third cell is UG Research Cell. This cell is responsible for the arrangement of different seminars for Shaikh Zayed Medical college. It also helps students in their research work writing.

Basic Departments

In the Basic Departments, are the departments of Anatomy, Physiology, Chemical Pathology, and Biochemistry. There are departments of medicine and surgery. All of these departments are well. Shaikh Zayed Medical college has its own journal by the name of ‘Phoenix’. Further, the college has a great administration.

A number of co-curricular events take place every year in the college. Many different societies have been working in college. A research society is working to motivate the students in order to encourage them to study the literature related to medicine. This society encourages the students to assist them in the publication of the journals etc.

For the organization of sports activities, a sports society is present. This society works for managing different sports tournaments every year. The society is being run over by the Faculty President and co-presidents. When the sports week begins in the college, male and female secretaries are being appointed. These secretaries organize sports. They manage the cricket teams, basketball teams, table tennis, and many other games.

Shaikh Zayed Medical College Hospital

This Shaikh Zayed hospital Lahore actually started from the donation given from Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan of UAE. The hospital started working in the year 1986. Initially, there were only 300 beds. But this number increased gradually to 700. Then further it increased to 1100. In the hospital, there are a number of well-experienced surgeons and physicians.

In Shaikh Zayed Hospital, Lahore, a number of facilities are available for the patients. Equipment for Liver Transplant, accident and emergency, for orthopedic operations. The students of Shaikh Zayed Medical College do their practical work in this hospital. They examine the patients and are free to do their case studies as well.
