So you want to have a child and be happy for the rest of your life. You’re all aware of the first signs of pregnancy. We use a pregnancy test kit to confirm it, and then we consult a doctor. But what if you get the feeling you’re pregnant but don’t have a pregnancy kit at home?

You can either wait until you get one or test it with some of the great DIY Pregnancy Tests. Yes, there are various types of pregnancy tests available at home.

Homemade Pregnancy Test vs Medical test

A pregnancy test determines whether or not a woman is pregnant. The two most common medical methods are:

  1. Testing for human pregnancy hormone in blood or urine
  2. Ultrasonography

Testing for hCG in the blood allows for the earliest detection of pregnancy. One week after the first day of a missed menstrual period, almost all pregnant women will have a positive urine pregnancy test.

While homemade pregnancy tests are done by using homemade methods with products of our daily use.

So, the homemade pregnancy test is more convenient than a medical one; we don’t need to go to the hospital or any pregnancy kit.

How many ways are there for a homemade pregnancy test?

If you are unaware of the homemade ones then don’t worry. Some of the pregnancy tests that can be made at the home are given below:

1. Pregnancy Test with Sugar

Since ancient times, sugar has been used to test for pregnancy and is the most widely used natural pregnancy test among women.

Requirements:

  • A clean bowl is required.
  • 1 teaspoon of sugar
  • A urine sample is taken as soon as you wake up in the morning

Procedure: Place one tablespoon of sugar in a bowl and pour the urine sample on top. Now sit back and watch.

Positive Sign: A pregnant woman’s urine contains the hormone hCG, which is a good sign. This hormone inhibits the dissolution of sugar. If you notice that the sugar does not readily dissolve but form clumps instead, it is a clear sign of pregnancy.

Negative Sign: If the sugar dissolves quickly in the urine, it means the urine does not contain hCG, and thus you are not pregnant.

Warning: This test is relatively safe, and no special precautions or protocols are required.

2. Pregnancy Test with Toothpaste

Toothpaste is a relatively new addition to homemade pregnancy tests, as it didn’t even exist centuries ago. Even though additional ingredients in colored toothpaste may interfere with the results, only white toothpaste is highly suggested.

Requirements:

  • A clean bowl is required.
  • toothpaste (two tablespoons)
  • A urine sample is taken as soon as you wake up in the morning

Procedure: In a bowl, combine two tablespoons of toothpaste and one tablespoon of the collected urine sample. Wait and watch.

Positive Sign: If you are pregnant, the toothpaste will immediately respond with your urine and turn blue. It may also become frothy.

Negative Sign: If the pregnancy is adverse, the toothpaste will not react with the urine at all.

Warning: While this test is valuable and simple to perform at home, it does have some drawbacks. For one thing, there are no set guidelines for how much urine should be added to the toothpaste. Second, the time it takes for the reaction to occur can differ.

3. Pregnancy Test Using Soap

This is an instrumental test that can be performed at home. Regardless of manufacturer, color, or fragrance addition, almost any soap can be used for this test.

Requirements:

  • a spotless bowl
  • A piece of soap
  • A urine sample is taken as soon as you wake up in the morning

Procedure: Put the soap in the bowl, then pour two tablespoons of urine over it and see it.

Positive Sign: If the soap froths and bubbles, you are most likely pregnant.

Negative Sign: There would be no response between the soap and the urine sample if there was no pregnancy.

Warning: None

Procedure: Add mustard powder to the warm water in the bathtub and soak for 20 to 25 minutes. Wash your hands and wait two to three days.

Positive Sign: Because mustard aids in period induction, you should have your period in two to three days. If your periods do not start, you are most likely pregnant.

Negative Sign: If your periods start in less than three days of this homemade pregnancy test, it means your periods were delayed for reasons other than pregnancy.

Warning: None

5. Pregnancy Test for Shampoo

This pregnancy test is just as simple as the toothpaste and soap test. It does not require any specialized tools, and the results are visible immediately.

Requirements:

  • A clean bowl is required.
  • Shampoo (two drops)

  • A urine sample is taken as soon as you wake up in the morning.

Procedure: Place two drops of shampoo in a clean bowl, add enough water to make a soapy solution, and gently whisk to avoid foaming. Now, add a few drops of the urine you collected and watch what happens.

Positive Sign: If the shampoo solution begins to froth or forms bubbles, you may be pregnant.
